skye race
Powered by FlyOnE, SkyERace is a new format of aerial racing never before seen on this planet of Earth.
A new era of energy use with a focus on efficiency over power will herald a new era of racing on land, water and sky.
FlyOnE is leading the charge in piloted electric air racing with the introduction of an all-new race format using the latest certified electric aircraft, the Pipistrel Electro.
Race circuit locations
The SkyE Race is a global series, allowing teams from anywhere in the world to compete, so long as they meet the team requirements below.
The 'TRACK' (course) can be duplicated in any region and competitors will scored on their ability to fly the track with the least amount of energy used, without breaching any of the VFR requirements and course thresholds.
The course will be issued 1 week prior to the nominated Round dates in GPX format so it can be uploaded to the Electro Instrument display allowing 1 week of practice time for the team prior to the Round nominated dates. Practice may be completed up to the date nominated by the Team.
Teams
Race teams will consist of Two Pilots, one Male, one Female and a team figure head (manager, mascot or public figure).
There are no limit to how many teams can register.
Team members will need to be minimum 100 hour Pilots, with a minimum of 10 hours in the Pipistrel ALPHA Electro.
race FOrmat
The FlyOnE Sky-E race presents an all-new race format.Teams will compete on a course with multiple turn gates and height gates, testing the the Team on their capabilities, not only in strategy, weather analysis and charge cycle management, but maximising the efficiency by handling the aircraft aero-dynamically well. The Race will consist of 3 rounds, 3 heats per round.
Each round will be completed within a 2 week period (as set by the organisers) with the intended flight date nominated and submitted by the teams prior to the commencement of this period.
The heats must be completed within a 12 hour window on the nominated date. Only heats completed on the nominated date will be counted in the Rounds points accrual.
Competion format
The GPS track of the heats from each round are ananlysed by the adjudicator and if found to breach the course parameters, the heat will be struck out as a disqualification and no points will count from that heat.
The points from all non-disquilified heats are totalled for each Round, for a total points accumulation for the team for the Round, to be released at the end of the 2 week period allocated for the Round.
The team with the highest points score after the final round will be the series winner for that season.
Each heat will be recorded by on board GPS for careful comparison to the course track.
Each heat will have a wing camera, in cabin POV camera and rear facing in cabin camera (dash POV showing Pilots).
Heat 1
The first heat in the Sky-E Race would consist of each Team executing the course with the goal of completing the route with the least amount of energy used.
The Pilot-in-Command and direction for this heat is chosen by team consensus.
Onboard energy is measured by the judges and referees prior to takeoff. The First Pilot-in-command then executes the course with his or her team Co-Pilot on board, rounding the GPS-embedded waypoints and all allocated course height 'gates'.
Upon landing in the designated LZ within specific landing speed and landing distance parameters, the remaining onboard energy is assessed by the judges and referees to be allocated points for this heat.
Points are allocated on a scale of energy used, with the least amount of energy used scoring the highest points.
HEAT 2
The Pilot-In-Command and Co-Pilot roles are then reversed, as is the course direction (scheduled when the wind is reversed or with a low enough tailwind).
After a charge cycle, Onboard energy is measured by the judges and referees prior to takeoff.
The Second Pilot-in-command then executes the course with his or her team Co-Pilot on board, rounding the GPS-embedded waypoints and all allocated course height 'gates'.Upon landing in the designated LZ within specific landing speed and landing distance parameters, the remaining onboard energy is assessed by the judges and referees to be allocated points for this heat. Points are allocated on a scale of energy used, with the least amount of energy used scoring the highest points.
heat 3
This heat is flown in either direction, and by either team member as Pilot-In-Command, but with both team members on board.
The Pilot-in-Command and direction for this heat is chosen by team consensus.
After a charge cycle, onboard energy is measured by the judges and referees prior to takeoff. The Pilot-In-Command then executes the course, meeting the GPS-embedded waypoints and all allocated course height 'gates'.Upon landing in the designated LZ within specific landing speed and landing distance parameters, the remaining onboard energy is assessed by the judges and referees to achieve the Competitor's points for this heat.
Points are allocated on a scale of energy used, with the least amount of energy used scoring the highest points.
This round has a multiplier of 1.5 on the points result, allowing a low scorer in the first two heats to make a leap in the points standings if they can meet all waypoints and height gates with the least amount of energy used in this final heat.
